The biographer Charles Cross wrote "the number of musicians who died at 27 is truly remarkable by any standard. Humans die regularly at any age, there is a statistical spike for musicians who died 27"
This list features these young talented musicians that passed on at this age. Jimi Hendrix passed away in 1970, Hendrix was one of the greatest guitarists in Rock history. Although his career only really spanned four years in total, with song such as Purple Haze, Hey Joe & The Wind Cries Mary, he has become one of the most influential artists of all time, indeed, his three studio albums often make it into many publications Top 100 Albums of all time countdowns.

A year after Jimi's death the world also lost The Doors lead singer Jim Morrison, The Doors were a Los Angeles psychedelic rock band formed in 1965. The band were commercially hugely successful, the band had three, million selling singles in the US with Touch Me, Hello to You and Light my Fire. Other unfortunate members of the 27 club include Janice Joplin, Amy Winehouse and Brian Jones. Arguably the most famous member is Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. The band were the leading lights in the Seattle Grunge scene of the mid-1980s to early 1990s, The band sold and continue to sell millions of albums and were inducted into the rock 'n' roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

All these recording artists on this shortlist are very much sadly missed, and one wonders what other exceptional music could of been produced by these incredibly talented men and women.
